The Caterpillar should be flyable in the upcoming 2.6 patch:

2.6 is probably going to the wider PTU early next week and probably live by the Holiday stream Friday.  And I was wondering who would be up for some FPS game play in Star Marine.  It is PVP currently and there is no AI coop game play except in Arena Commander where you can play the new Pirate Swarm along with Vandul Swarm.  The new flight characteristics will also be in but subject to change of course.  I cannot talk about the game play but there are videos out and a leak of 2.6 content from some guy who hacked the launcher and got it to DL the 2.6 PTU build and then play with it offline.

I would be interested, depending on the time.

Did they ever overhaul their patching software so that you don't have to download several GB of data each time the game gets updated?

Hi Strango, I was under the impression that is how it is now, but pgill is better suited to answer that one.

So the PTU builds took a bit of a step back early this week and has improved with yesterdays but 2.6 is still crashing about every 5-10 min in Star Marine.  I hope the patch tonight will be a big improvement and maybe Friday will have a live candidate.  Unfortunately the Launcher does not yet support incremental patches and still goes by pak file and they are about 4 gig a pop.  That would put this patch on release at a full 30 gig.

I am sure they will have another small patch for 2.6 in a week to take care of some bugs and such but at that point I would think it will stay on live unchanged until 3.0 drops and that will probably be end of Feb or March.  The public matches in Star Marine are pretty fast paced and performance can vary with the number of 200+ pings you have connected.  Private matches however are very smooth and fun to play.  Arena Commander is also very fun and a great way to learn the way your ship performs.  In the Persistent Universe ( Crusader gas giant and moons ) map there is still very limited content, 17 missions but with friends and multi crew ships running those missions can be a blast and pretty darn difficult in the later ICC probe missions. If anyone is up for checking it out let me know.

Happy New Year!!

cheers

The 2.6.2 patch is out!  I suggest everyone download that sooner than later.

If this patch is not "too bad", I would like to round up some people to play.

The Drake Buccaneer is flight ready.  Also, TrackIR is supported again.

If anyone is interested, I am planning on being around at 5:00 PM Eastern time to play.  I am trying to get my brother and someone else to play at that time as well.  If you want to join us, that would be great.

This patch is primarily dedicated to bug fixes, with continued focus on stability and game performance.

Your launcher should show “2.6.3-523988” as the client version. It is strongly recommended that players delete their USER folder for the Live client after patching, particularly if you start encountering any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:\Program Files\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Public.

For those of you who have a physical game package, the box will look something like this:

It looks like the 3.0 patch has been delayed again:
