Well, I was able to download it tonight, but it still does not work for me.

In any case, I found a cool thread in the Star Citizen forums that was started by some enterprising forum member that was able to get everything into the Cryengine 3 Sandbox editor. Check it out:

Check your accounts under "My Hanger"; you should see a 15 Million reward, a 16 Million reward, and a 17 Million reward.

This will add the following items:
Digital 42-page Upgrade Handbook
Laser Pistol side arm
Mystery engine modifier

Caterpillar looks like nothing more than the Eve Badger with a set of wings and tail section.

While some people are spending a lot of money for this you can however get in for the cost of a normal game.

I'm not sure what the time table is on purchases, but up to a certain point any ship that you buy during this pre-alpha time comes with life time insurance for the hull and default equipment (never has to be purchased again).

Another facet of this game which I think makes it extremely interesting is multi-crewed ships. So if you get your ship blown up, and don't have insurance or enough credits to replace it, you could always help crew one of the multi-person ships. For instance my ship, the, Constellation- class hull, has 4 crew slots. You could help me navigate, pilot, man one of the two turrets, or pilot the snub-fighter which is attached to my ship.

I also believe that the fact that this is a skill based, first person game, ganking like in EVE becomes more difficult. A good pilot could likely fend off, get away, or even destroy a larger group of attackers.

As far as the money aspect, some of us have spent a bit more either because we wanted a bigger ship, more ships, or just because we believe in the genre so much that we wanted to contribute more to making it better. Like Strango said, you can get in as cheap as $30 or so bucks and that's the most you would ever have to spend. Ever.

Badger, if you have not already bought a ship, do yourself a favor and just buy a skin for a ship for $5.00:

Next, let me know what ship you want and I can buy it for you and gift it to you.

My thoughts are that you better plan on getting something a bit more powerful, or plan on upgrading in one year.

Ok so on the 10th they are going to probably have some ships return for sale and possibly some variants of existing ships.
