Interesting.
We embrace this fire it is who we are. Do not weep for us or fear the path that we have chosen. We will rescue us from ourselves. It will come to pass that the fire in the depth of our souls returns those who would defy us to the hell in which they came.

Reaper and I hopped on a Siege server the other night; It was pretty fun. Basically its Attack & Defend with the defenders starting in a castle. There's a flag area in the courtyard where the attackers have to stand under it to bring the flag down to win. Near instant respawn time for attackers and over 10 seconds for the defenders. There are multiples ways into the castle varying from pushing a siege cart up against the castle wall, raising ladders or smashing down doors. There is normally a main entrance as well that can be opened and closed by controls inside the castle walls.

Combat was different than other modes due to some fighting in interior rooms. Shorter weapons became more effective due to proper collision detection for the weapons and the environment (ex. A side swing of a polearm doesn't work well when you're in a hall way.). You also have to be much more aware of friendly fire with 4 or 5 guys all fighting in the same room.

Also I read that there are already two community created game-modes created for the beta (and tools haven't even been released yet). This bodes well for the prediction that the game will have huge community support. Reminds me of all the things people accomplished with the original OFP demo.

Yeah, played this last weekend, it was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to playing it more.

Downloading the beta

Edit: And as I remember, manual parrying is an exercise in frustration

Its a requirement on the servers we like to play on. The last several times I've played I have purposely picked 2 handed weapons or not taken a shield so as to improve my manual blocking skills. IMO manual blocking is the most fun part of the game....getting good at it is another thing, but practice makes perfect.

Steam has a pre-order sale up for $26.99. You get immediate access to the single and multi-player beta.

Release date is still set for the 30th so I would assume the pre-order sale will go until then.

I purchased via Steam last night.

I have to admit that I've had an absolute blast in the single-player and even more fun in the multi-player. For $27, you can't go wrong with it.

I did so as well and played last night with Strango and Slug. I had a great time. Its a simplistic game, but the gameplay is entertaining and the genre not very well explored. When I started I got my ass handed to me non-stop, but by the end of the night I was dealing out some ass-whoopins. Good times!

If we can ever get the dedicated server to run we'll have to do some of the Total War game mode. Its where the players end up as squad leaders of bots and you basically assign an overall commander on each side and they can play it in a RTS type fashion giving orders to the squad leaders in maneuvering and engaging.

The Full game was released today (actually yesterday).

Like the first game the download is the same for demo users. You can grab it here:
http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/85121/ ... emo-v1-102

I'm not sure if MP is in the demo or not, but you can at least get a feel for the game mechanics. Note that your character sucks at the start of a new game and he will swing much slower than after he gets going (also a better shot with ranged weapons). If it allows custom battles in the demo that is a better indication of what an experienced character handles like.

Also for people who bought the game online you can get the manual in PDF here:

GoGamer has it on sale for $16.90

I can't see how anyone who doesn't have it can pass it up at this price:

Invasion mod is now out for Warband. This is the one that is basically setup like Killing Floor. The players are all on the same side fighting off waves of bad guys. There are items to buy between rounds and bosses to fight.

It requires a client side download which can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mun0ne22oer

I'll get everything setup on the server side and we can give this a go.
